List of diseases that babies are prone to (Part 1)

As a parent, you of course have to know what all diseases your little one is likely to get on his journey of growing up. However, for all these diseases, there are vaccines available too, to ensure that chances of your little one contracting any of those diseases, decreases. These vaccinations are given at different stages of your little one’s growth and are very important to ensure that your child grows up disease free. But in order to make sure that your child grows up healthy and happy, you also need to be aware of all the diseases that could befall him/her and what their symptoms are. Hepatitis A: Mostly affecting the liver, Hepatitis A usually spreads through contaminated food or water sources or even from the direct contact of a person already suffering from the disease. It is not necessary that all children affected by Hepatitis A, show symptoms, though some may exhibit mild flu like ones. Even though it is not the most pleasant disease, Hepatitis A is rarely something to worry about. This is merely just one of the few diseases that can easily be prevented by timely vaccinations. Hepatitis B: Like Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B too affects the liver, and cases irritation and inflammation. Essentially spread through coming in contact with bodily fluids of an infected person, and sometimes the symptoms are not even visible for upto 6 months from the time of coming in contact with the virus. Some of the early symptoms might include appetite loss, muscle and joint pain, fever and fatigue, vomiting, yellowish tint on skin and dark coloured urine. This is another disease that can easily be avoided thanks to vaccinations available to us nowadays. Measles: Measles used to be one of the most common childhood diseases before any vaccinations were discovered. This is also one of the most contagious diseases out there and your baby can easily catch it via the sneeze/cough of any infected person. The very first symptom that appears in this disease is a really bad case of cold accompanied by fever. Two days after the little one has contracted the disease, you might also notice the appearance of rashes on this skin. Measles is a slightly more serious disease than Hepatitis, and can also lead to a few problems like Bronchitis, ear infections or sometimes even complications of the nervous system. In order to make sure that your child is protected from this disease, a vaccination against it is a must! This vaccine is available in combination with Mumps and Rubella, and is also being given in school to every child between the ages of 9 months to 5 years.
