Immune system boosting foods during pregnancy

When a woman is pregnant, the body ends up curbing the process that the immune system goes through to protect the body against diseases. As a result of this, during the time of a pregnancy, the body is more susceptible to diseases and health problems. This is where the need for good and nutritious food comes into play. A few foods and nutrients in particular help develop your immune system and boost its disease-fighting properties. Here are a few foods and nutrients in particular that can for sure help you do just that.

Vitamin D

It has always been advised that pregnant women, as soon as they find out they are expecting, should start taking foods that contain Vitamin D without a doubt. The consumption of Vitamin D should continue till the time breastfeeding continues. Vitamin D specifically helps ward off and fight infections very effectively. Foods that contain Vitamin D:

  • Eggs
  • Leafy Greens
  • Breakfast Serials

In winters especially, the sunshine vitamin aka Vitamin D is something we don’t get enough of. SO consuming foods rich in Vitamin D is extremely important during this time.

Almonds:

Nuts are absolutely amazing when it comes to providing our body with various health benefits, and if one was to choose a single nut that will ensure it offers the best, then it has to be almonds, hands down and without a doubt. Did you know that the skin of the almonds contains certain naturally occurring chemicals that which actually help the white blood cells in our body detect infections and even helps it from not spreading across the body? Apart from this, almonds also contain riboflavin, manganese and copper too.

Zinc:

It has been scientifically proven that the trace minerals present in zinc can very effectively support the role of the immune system in the human body. Take the common cold for example. Research found that people who started taking zinc supplements at the onset of the symptoms of cold recovered faster when compared to people who did not take the supplements. Zinc is an important nutrient that is essential for the production, repair and even functioning of the DNA, and as we all know, DNA is the basic building block of the cells in our body. Keeping all this mind, it pretty much goes without saying that zinc is exceptionally important during pregnancy as well. Indulge in beans, nuts, bread and products like wheat germ to ensure the easy absorption of zinc in your body.
